Originally discovered in the rainforests of Paraguay about 2,000 years ago by the Guarani people, stevia was called Ka’a He’e, meaning sweet herb. A high-quality stevia leaf is about 30 times sweeter than sugar and contains many important nutrients. Stevia extract is 300-350 times sweeter than sugar in its final high-intensity sweetener form.

Jim May first brought stevia to the United States nearly 30 years ago and he has worked with the native farmers throughout South and Central America to improve stevia crop yields, quality of leaves, and methods of propagation, cultivation and harvest since that time.

Farmers in nine different Latin American countries currently partner with SweetLeaf in growing stevia. Jim May is called the “Father of Stevia” and revered as a “living legend” to those associated with stevia. He was recently given a unanimous nomination to be the honorary President of the American Federation of Stevia, an organization of stevia growers, manufacturers, scientists and governmental agents across Latin America.

Sweet For You, Sweet For The World

The sweet flavor of SweetLeaf comes from the stevia plant – a natural herb cultivated in the unique climates of South America.

Each time you enjoy the goodness of SweetLeaf, you support positive, sustainable production in these countries too. Wisdom Natural Brands works with local famers to establish long-lasting relationships with those who use simple, natural and sustainable farming methods for growing stevia.

In fact, farmers are learning they can earn more growing stevia than crops used for illegal drugs. Wisdom will continue to work with all these local farmers for quality stevia and to better their quality of life. That makes the world a safer and healthier place for everyone.
